{"id":102441,"date":"2017-11-24T21:29:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-24T21:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palletforce.com\/?p=102441"},"modified":"2021-10-20T09:31:15","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T08:31:15","slug":"palletforce-uses-levy-to-boost-commitment-to-young-apprentices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.palletforce.com\/en\/palletforce-uses-levy-to-boost-commitment-to-young-apprentices\/","title":{"rendered":"Palletforce uses levy to boost commitment to young apprentices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>UK express distribution network Palletforce is leading the way in tackling the sector\u2019s growing skills shortage, by doubling its commitment to recruit young apprentices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Burton-based company already has a robust apprenticeship scheme in place, but is now one of the few in the pallet industry to have already taken advantage of the new Apprenticeship Levy, boosting its intake of both office and depot staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Levy, introduced by the government in April this year, enables companies with a PAYE bill in excess of \u00a33m to pay into a communal fund which is then used to fund apprenticeship training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Palletforce is now set to enrol 10 young people into its Forklift Truck Driver\u2019s Academy annually. Apprentices currently make up over 10 per cent of FLT drivers at the company\u2019s new SuperHub, recently opened by HRH Princess Royal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three apprentices have also been taken on in admin, IT and accountancy positions at Palletforce\u2019s head office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Palletforce CEO, Michael Conroy, the key to addressing the skills shortage is attracting young people to the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of companies see apprenticeships as a way of upskilling their existing workforce,\u201d he said. \u201cWhile there is nothing wrong with this in theory, it does nothing to solve the problem of an ageing workforce and training a new generation in the necessary skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe FLT Academy is a good example of Palletforce\u2019s long-term commitment to encouraging&nbsp;young people&nbsp;into the logistics sector, which it critical to its survival as a career choice.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UK express distribution network Palletforce is leading the way in tackling the sector\u2019s growing skills shortage, by doubling its commitment to recruit young apprentices.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":21,"featured_media":102442,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[29,57,28,26],"tags":[],"postlocation":[],"posttype":[],"postservice":[],"class_list":["post-102441","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-general","category-generallatest-news","category-latest-news","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
