Global logistics and technology provider EV Cargo has reinforced its commitment to sustainability with a special webinar coinciding with Earth Day on Thursday 22 April.

Over 120 attendees heard how the global business was taking positive measures to reduce its impact on the environment with many making personal and professional pledges to embrace sustainability initiatives in their daily lives.

The event, headlined “Restore Our Earth”, focused on successful sustainability initiatives proven to both save money and positively impact on the environment. It also provided a forum to discuss the positive influence such initiatives can have on communities, as well as highlighting EV Cargo’s journey to diversity and inclusion.

Speakers at the event included Duncan Grewcock, chief commercial officer at EV Cargo Technology, who discussed packaging optimisation; Simon Gibbard, network operations general manager for EV Cargo company Palletforce, who outlined the sustainability benefits from the company’s network business model; and Danielle Owen, EV Cargo’s head of marketing and communications, who discussed the subject of “Impacting Communities.”

Attendees heard how EV Cargo’s leading technology significantly improved container load fill for Marks & Spencer, helping it remove 1,070 million tonnes of CO2 from its supply chain by reducing 1,000 shipping containers used per year. Other case studies were presented that resulted in important CO2 emission reductions as well as savings in corrugate material for Primark.

They also learned about the sustainability benefits delivered by the Palletforce business model, with the local member network helping to reduce mileages and allowing vehicles to operate at industry-leading load fill and efficiency levels. It’s estimated that pallet networks in the UK help remove 800 vehicles a day from UK roads thus reducing costs and increasing savings in CO2 emissions and reducing air pollution.

Organiser Dr. Virginia Alzina, EV Cargo’s chief sustainability officer, says: “Sustainability is vital to the way we operate and is central to our growth. EV Cargo’s pioneering solutions, powered by technology and innovation, allows customers to benefit from a swift, smart and efficient service.

“Our continual investment in market-leading infrastructure, technology and skills means we are dedicated to reducing energy, slashing emissions and cutting freight miles”. This webinar is the first of its kind for EV Cargo, and we hope it will encourage more employees to get involved and attend subsequent sustainability events and initiatives.

“The webinar was a huge success with many people already pledging to make positive changes in their daily lives to help reduce their personal impact on the environment.”
